Basement, the New York club adjacent to the Knockdown Center, has barred smart glasses from its rooms and warned that anyone who brings a pair risks a permanent ban.

The venue set out the rule on social media this week, framing it as an extension of the no-recording policy it already operates. “Our no photo/no video policy exists to protect the privacy, safety and freedom of everyone on our dance floor,” the statement read. “Devices that allow discreet recording are incompatible with that policy.”

The restriction covers possession as much as use. “Anyone bringing smart glasses into the venue, whether wearing them or carrying them in a bag, will be asked to leave and may be permanently banned,” the club said.

The club has built its reputation on an anonymous dancefloor, and the update restates that position rather than introducing a new one, applying a long-running door culture to a newer category of consumer hardware.

It also places Basement among a growing number of nightlife spaces pushing back against always-on recording, at a point where smart glasses from the largest consumer platforms are reaching wider adoption.
