Unter Strom have released "Fragment," their third single. The duo's first two records were built remotely, with files exchanged between them rather than written in a shared room, and both were picked up in sets by Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten and Markus Schulz.

The new track came out of a different method. Dancing Astronaut reports the pair booked two days at Sound Factory in Los Angeles and worked face to face with no fixed deadline, trading places behind the desk and reopening arrangements they had already considered complete. Each time the structure closed, they added to it again.

The finished record leans on techno and melodic house but avoids the looped, eight-bar shape most club material is built around. Rather than settling into a repeating pattern that a room can anticipate, it keeps shifting as it goes, holding the tension between its parts instead of resolving into a familiar drop.

"Fragment" had circulated as an unreleased ID in the duo's own sets before now, the kind of track a DJ keeps in reserve rather than issuing commercially. That period is over with its release.
